In the late autumn of 2007 I had resigned from my very safe, fairly prestigious full-time French teaching job and was embarking on a new life as a minimally job-sharing teacher in a most challenging school. I was discovering the sheer relief of less juggling and simple joy of walking up and down the leafy surburban hill that links our house to their school.
One Sunday the lifestyle magazine ran a vivid, inspiring article on a French teacher who had turned her back on teaching to pursue international adventures, and now stayed home and made quilts. And had written a book following the success of her blog. Colour? My word!
So, I got the book for Christmas, discovered the world of blogs, marvelled at the creativity and beauty of homes and lives. And subsequently met Crafting Catherine, and through her discovered the Bean and Niqi and Lorna. And as of yesterday my "kak-handed", remnants of tacky wool crochet blanket is complete! Thanks, June! (And Jane...)

Hello, sweet one!
I discovered Jane Brocket via blogs, too. I won her book in My Firefly Cottage's giveaway and I am still so delighted with it as well as JB's blog. The world of blogs really is such a soft, inspirational domain, isn't it? I love your blanket. You made something lovely!
Three weeks to go before I can snuggle at home. I'm tired and so busy with school. I'm sure you are, too.
Oh, I do wish I could fly over for your birthday party. Do you know that I have never been to Europe? Asia (all over) and Australia, but not to the lovely UK and beyond. Sigh. Soon, I hope. I really want to buy Jane's quilt book. Have an encouraging day!
'Tis beautiful! Jane Brocket eat your heart out! Cx
She's a recent discovery of mine, so soothing and bright. Your blanket is lovely.
Am a big JB fan - the Domesticity book is a favourite way to cheer myself up.
Love your blanket - am envious of anyone who can crochet.
Beautiful!! Thank you for visiting and commenting...strength WILL raise up, as we wait upon the Lord!!! Blessings and peace
Good for you! I don't know how you ladies do it, how you keep going to work every morning or even two or three a week. I am so tired after piddling around home! But soothing, cheering, and inspirational blogs (to use other commenters' words) and sewing and waiting on the Lord do raise strength, as Mary B says.
I have read Jane Brocket's blog for almost 4 years now. There has been NO ONE that has inspired me as much as her. Just purchased her quilt book and it is quite inspiring. She is absolutely BRILLIANT. By the way, your ripple blanket is lovely.
It is extraordinary what an influence Jane B has had through her words and photographs. For so many people reading her blog or book for the first time was a point of personal transition in their experience of domestic life.
