Fourth Sunday in Advent: Love

Not in that poor lowly stable
With the oxen standing by
We shall see Him
But in Heaven
Set at God's right hand on high

..Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart..

It's been a busy and lovely Christmas filled day today, with a busy and Christmas filled week ahead! Pausing and pondering!

Beautiful candles! That is one of my very favorite carols, and my favorite verse. When our big choir used to sing it as the processional in our Christmas Lessons and Carols, we sopranos did a descant on that verse, and the arches of the sanctuary rang. I loved it.

Hmm, pondering. I think I need to do a little more of that here.

Blessings!

When I read this verse I always think that Mary was pondering the good things. not the shame of expecting a child unmarried, not the long trip to Bethlehem, riding on a donkey at 9 months pregnant or the uncomfortable hay while giving birth. I think she pondered the good things -- the angel's visit, the love Joseph showed, and holding her Son -- and knowing He was the Son of God.

Merry Christmas!
